GCA STANDING COMMITTEES
GCA ACTIVITIES, PROFESSIONAL & COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
Plans and coordinates GCA’s social activities and award functions, including subcommittees for the GCA Annual Golf Tournament, GCA Annual Picnic and Excellence in Construction Awards. It promotes and encourages GCA members to build relationships with other Guam professional organizations and the island community.
EDUCATION & TRAINING COMMITTEE
Sponsors construction industry apprenticeship programs and craft training at the GCA Trades Academy and develops training partnerships to fulfill the educational needs of member firms and their employees. The Education and Training Committee is also responsible for setting the criteria and qualification eligibility for apprenticeship scholarships at the GCA Trades Academy.
GOVERNMENT, MILITARY & LABOR AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
Educates and informs members on proposed and current legislation affecting the construction industry, and represents GCA members at legislative public hearings and meetings. Also, provides information to members on local and federal contracting policies. Develops relationships with agency contracting offices and monitors local and federal alien labor policies and activities while encouraging the development of a local labor force in Guam’s construction industry.
SAFETY COMMITTEE
Assess the safety programs and training needs for member firms and their employees. Develops community partnerships to promote safe working conditions in the construction industry and sponsors training seminars to ensure that members have the necessary tools and knowledge for OSHA compliance. The committee plans and coordinates the annual safety conference. The committee also assists GCA members in submitting application forms for the annual Safety Training & Evaluation Process (STEP) awards. This program is administered by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
The membership committee’s primary function is to recruit new members to the GCA. They are also tasked with identifying and implementing programs that would benefit member companies and their employees such as an association health care plan, supplemental health care plan, 401K or other retirement plans and also the implementation of a physical and/or virtual plan room. The membership committee has oversight over the Construction News Bulletin and GCA website.
